Unique itinerary on the identity of Valmorel
Valmorel, a small village in the Belluno Prealps, celebrates its identity through art and culture.
In 2006, on the occasion of the centenary of Dino Buzzati’s birth, the local group “I Becalench” brought to life the bas-reliefs The Miracles of Val Morel, works inspired by Buzzati’s ex voto. The first sculptures, displayed on the facade of the Dairy, enriched the village and later the surrounding woods with over fifty works featuring both real and fantastic figures.
The installations are organized into thematic paths: towards Malga Van, legendary figures appear; towards Malga Montegal, ancient crafts come to life; and at Malga Canal del Gat, fairy tales take shape. At the four corners of the square, four statues call to mind the surrounding context: a student with a backpack on the side of the Guesthouse at Scole, a cheesemaker with his tools in front of the Dairy, a woman with a child facing the church, and a man with a bottle and glass oriented towards the Inn.
Among the most original works are the sculptures of Laste by Luciano Roncada, made from wood recovered from trees felled by the Vaja storm in 2019, including a wolf, a sword, and an alien, a fun reference to a local murmur about a supposed UFO landing.
The ideal starting point to explore this heritage is the square of Valmorel, where a wooden display board indicates the paths, guiding residents and visitors between art and nature.
