Construction of the landscape between cultivation and settlement

Dry stone walls represent a traditional arrangement of the territory and have been an integral part of the rural landscape for centuries.
Over time, they have helped shape agricultural spaces and human settlements, playing a fundamental role in sustainable land management, preventing hydrogeological instability, and conserving biodiversity.
For this reason, it is particularly important today to protect and pass on these construction techniques, especially in a context where traditional agricultural practices have been progressively abandoned and dry stone walls are increasingly exposed to the risk of degradation.
It is worth noting that the art of building dry stone walls has been recognized as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO and is shared by eight European countries: Cyprus, Croatia, France, Greece, Italy, Slovenia, Spain, and Switzerland.
