Sentiero Buzzati

Sentiero Buzzati

Towards the memory of “The Miracles of Valmorel” by Dino Buzzati

A walk in the places dear to Dino Buzzati, the great Belluno author, who loved to hike up to Valmorel for inspiration.

It is undoubtedly a very evocative and famous walk because it was frequently taken by the writer, who had his birthplace in Belluno. The views over Valbelluna, the provincial capital, and the Dolomite groups are very striking.

A steep mule track among the columns leads to the sanctuary of the Madonna di Parè with the three large crosses at its feet, where traces of a fortified high-medieval village emerge, still visible are sections of defensive walls and the foundational remains of some constructions.

By climbing along the northern foothills of the Belluno Prealps, one reaches San Pietro in Tuba first, and then to the chapel of Santa Rita, built in 1973 in memory of Buzzati’s last literary effort, “The Miracles of Val Morel,” set precisely in these places, where the artist imagined the existence of a sanctuary dedicated to Santa Rita.

Continuing along the path, one finally emerges in the wide plain called Valpiana until reaching the village of Valmorel.
