The Piani Eterni (Eternal Plains), once known as Piano Eterno (Eternal Plain), have the suggestive place-name that reminds Dino Buzzati ‘s writings. Arriving in this plain is the reward for the monotonous hard work as it is one of the most beautiful rural places in the Dolomites of Belluno. In this plain there is the Malga Erera, which is open during summertime, and it is a refreshment hut serving its own homemade food as well as a farm with accommodation opportunities. In malga Brendol (or Brandol), which is the property of the local Forest Service, a room for emergency bivouac using is always open. The eighteenth-century barn is very famous, partially collapsed and rebuilt a few years ago, with its long and impressive sequence of arches. For the return you can opt for one of the two section obmitted uphill. From the Piani Eterni you can go down direction California, the valley of the river Mis and the valley of Camporotondo, through an easy but long and hard path. Here you can go up on the picturesque and close Mount Mondo. Otherwise, if you are an expert hiker, you can take the path towards Cimonega and Bivacco Feltre, which is very difficult and over exposed in some places. For fit hikers, very expert of this areas and this kind of excursions, the very long ascent from Roncoi of San Giorgio is recommended.
