La nascita dei musei civici nel Veneto dell’Ottocento

24 April @ 0:00

The historian Gian Maria Varanini will describe the birth of civic museums in 19th-century Veneto, a phenomenon that involves many cities of the mainland before Belluno, and reflects the cultural and political transformations between the Lombard-Venetian Kingdom and the newly formed Kingdom of Italy.

The establishment of the museum in Belluno in 1876 is not an isolated case, but is part of a broader phenomenon that involves all the main cities of the Venetian mainland starting from the first half of the 19th century, and reflects the cultural and political transformations that affected this territory in the decades transitioning from the Lombard-Venetian Kingdom to the newly formed Kingdom of Italy.

Gian Maria Varanini was a full professor of Medieval History at the University of Verona.

His research interests have focused on the political, social, and cultural history of medieval Italy, with particular reference to the central-northern area, to Veneto, to the cities of Veneto, and to the relationships between Venice and the mainland.

His studies have also led him to examine the formation of civic museums in Veneto between the 19th and 20th centuries, delving into the figures of scholars and historians who were the protagonists.

Free admission with mandatory reservation by sending an email to prenotazionimuseo@comune.belluno.it.
