Il Teatro Sociale di Belluno. Un’indagine storico-artistica

16 July @ 0:00

On Thursday, July 17, the presentation of the book “The Teatro Sociale di Belluno: A Historical-Artistic Investigation” will take place at the Museum of Stone and Stonecutters.

It was 1835 and Belluno was preparing to welcome one of the most important buildings in the city: an elegant Italian-style theater, with skillfully decorated boxes and a scenic endowment worthy of a grand enterprise. Thus, the Teatro Society gifts the city a work destined to become the symbol of an era: the Teatro Sociale di Belluno is born.
Where theater is made, a city is told: at the foot of the Dolomites, among the folds of time and archives, the theater becomes a mirror of collective life, its aspirations, and its changes.
From its location in Caminata to the refined nineteenth-century building designed by Giuseppe Segusini, from its transformation into a cinema in the post-war period to the return to its theatrical function, the volume retraces two centuries of Belluno’s scenic history, drawing from the rich and layered heritage of the Teatro Society. It emerges as a portrait of a city that, despite being crossed by crises, wars, and earthquakes, has managed to preserve the memory of its cultural activities and restore them with new value.

Presentation of the book edited by Mara Losso and Francesca Penoni
