Villa Buzzati

On a previous sixteenth-century residence of the Sacello family, which became extinct in 1735, Cesare had the current complex built, representative of the romantic taste of the early nineteenth century, with neogothic additions at the end of the century. The exteriors are decorated with nineteenth-century frescoes. It was the home and summer residence of the writer Dino Buzzati.

“This is a somewhat magical house. A house rich in history and stories that until a few years ago remained closed and cold for most of the year. The windows overlooking the garden and the mountains were opened only in the summer months, the months of ‘vacation’, as the holidays were once called.”

The villa opened to the July sun and breathed in the summer heat, the September storms, the lights of autumn, and closed again with the scents of the stoves lit on the first cold days of October. Then it remained alone all through the cold winter, waiting immobile… for the awakening, at the sound of cars on the gravel of the square and the arrival of a new season.

 Here Dino Buzzati was born, my grandmother’s brother, a writer, journalist, and painter, who lived in Milan, like all of us, but who regularly spent the month of September in this house, writing, walking, and climbing the nearby mountains, along with my mother and his friends.

Perhaps precisely to not leave this great house too alone, I decided to come live here and to open its windows to the garden and the mountains, in all the seasons of the year. Furthermore, I thought I could offer hospitality by opening a small Bed & Breakfast for all those who can grasp the magic and the history of this place, savoring the atmosphere that has always fascinated me since I was a child, between passion, respect, and fear for something that lies between heart and soul, for something that even now, I struggle to understand and for this it captures me.”
