Palazzo delle Poste

Palazzo delle Poste

The building in Piazza Duomo today houses the Post Office of Belluno, featuring a sober exterior and interiors rich in stuccos and sculptures.

The palace, built between 1936 and 1938, designed by architect Alberto Alpago-Novello, is located in Piazza Duomo, constructed in the Novecento style, and replaced the building of the prisons and some pre-existing private residences.
The building has three floors and a regular square plan. The center of the palace is the public hall with a flat roof. The main entrance is recognizable by two arches with a full round shape, approximately 10 meters high.

The base and the facades are framed by slabs of local stone (limestone from Castellavazzo) and white plaster, while the atrium, the public hall, the arches, and the floors are made of various colored marbles: a chromatic explosion without neoclassical constraints, contrasting with the calm and sober lines of the Novecento-inspired exterior.

For the palace of Belluno, we rely on the internal stuccos by Napoleone Martinuzzi, the mosaics, and the two sculptures by Salvatore Saponaro, placed on the external facade of the body, executed in white stone from Pinè.

Inside this palace, the Belluno Post Office is housed.
