Following the road for the Chiappini location that starts from the Church of Arina, you can appreciate the great work of terracing carried out in the past centuries. In these patches of barren land were cultivated cereals, vegetables, vineyards and orchards which allowed the survival of many generations of the Arina population. But the main occupation was the transhumance; till the 40’s, dozens of families were still dedicated to this activity. After a 20-minute ride you will reach the two suburbs of “Gai”, small groups of traditional houses situated above Valpora. Once into the valley, the path turns left and it becomes a particularly stunning ride that makes its way through rocks and the gorge of the Valpora stream. After 20 minutes you will arrive at the turnoff for the “Stue” location and the Valpora’s gorge, which is walkable from its bed towards the mountain till the “Tecia” (a large “Giant’s kettle” under a waterfall). This deviation requires great attention even for the most trained. The Stue or Portoe, built at the end of 800 are dams in stone and wood with large gates that, causing an overflow, transported timber from the Pezza’s forests to the sawmills. Continuing to ride along the path n° 12, in 40 minutes you will get to the Vettorelli location and to the road for Arina.
