La Leggenda di Bassano – Trofeo Giannino Marzotto

26 June @ 0:00 - 28 June @ 0:00

Everything is ready for the thirtieth edition of The Legend of Bassano – Giannino Marzotto Trophy. Incredible cars, dreamy landscapes, and a program full of surprises are the ingredients to celebrate together with old and new friends this important anniversary in Bassano del Grappa (VI).

The thirtieth edition of The Legend of Bassano – Giannino Marzotto Trophy will kick off on Thursday, June 26, from the magnificent Palladian location of Villa Caffo Navarrini in Rossano Veneto. The program promises to be rich with tourist and cultural offerings, but also includes many moments planned to best celebrate this significant anniversary.

As mentioned, the event will start with the technical/sport checks scheduled in the park of the eighteenth-century villa, which have been exceptionally moved to Thursday morning to allow the crews to fully enjoy all the activities organized by the Veneto Automoto d’Epoca Club (CVAE). Following this will be one of the most glamorous moments of the event: the suggestive gala dinner, which, thanks to the work done in collaboration with the Municipality of Bassano del Grappa, will take place at one of the symbols of the Venetian town, the Ponte degli Alpini.

On Friday, June 27, departure at 9 am, with the first cultural stop at the “Jonathan Collection” Foundation, at the Francesco Baracca Airfield in Nervesa della Battaglia, which, thanks to the great work of the namesake O.N.L.U.S., is the only Italian museum dedicated to historical vehicles maintained in perfect working order for shows and reenactments. The stop will coincide with the first skill test.

The day will continue with the approach to the Belluno Dolomites, passing through Feltre followed by a refreshment stop at the historic Pedavena Brewery, before continuing towards Fiera di Primiero and then Siror for the second skill test of the day. Finally, we will arrive in San Martino di Castrozza, where the cars will parade along the main street of the historic center after completing the last skill test. In the evening, there will be another spectacular moment with a cable car transfer to reach the Valverde Refuge, where dinner will be followed by a fireworks display against the backdrop of the valley offered by the CVAE.

On Saturday, June 28, after two more tests in San Martino and Siror and following the passage through Agordo, the cars will be expected in Caprile, to set off towards the Alpenroyal Hotel where a lunch stop is scheduled while crossing the Gardena Pass. The return to San Martino di Castrozza via Caprile will provide the opportunity for two more tests of the day.

The program will conclude on Sunday, June 29, with the last tests to determine the overall ranking and, subsequently, the traditional stop at the Cornale Brewery for a “champion’s” breakfast in the name of passion for motorsport. Arrival in Piazza Libertà in Bassano del Grappa is expected in the late morning, where the sensational parade of cars will precede the awards ceremony at the Cloister of the Civic Museum and the refreshment with greetings and celebrations back at Villa Caffo. A celebration for the city and the entire area, with 2 regions and 5 provinces crossed over about 500 km traveled through the stunning scenery of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage site, a true moving museum made up of 100 of the most beautiful Sport Competizione (or Barchette) cars in history.

Among these, it’s worth mentioning the debut at the “Legend” of the incredible 1921 GN Parker Special powered by a 6.2-liter airplane engine, arriving directly from Great Britain driven by Justin Maeers with the number 1 on the side. Speaking of big calibers, in addition to the usual, much-appreciated presence of the “Bentley Boys” led by the Irish Eddie McGuire, who will line up a remarkable 7 pre-war Bentleys (including two stunning supercharged “Blowers”) gathered in Bassano from around the world, the colossal 1929 Mercedes-Benz Sport 4 with its 7,000 cc engine, brought to Italy by the Hamburg-based Moritz Dressel, will also be present.

Also arriving from Germany is the 1953 Ermini 1100 Sport of Germans Hamelmann Stefen and Caroline, already a protagonist of 3 Mille Miglia speed events, and one of the two official 3.8-liter 1959 Jaguar C-types. Among the gems that the public will be able to admire during the four days of the show will be three pairs of aces: two 1932 Alfa Romeo 8C Monzas, both from England, two Maserati A6GCS, and two BMW 328s, coming from the Netherlands, Belgium, Switzerland, and Germany, confirming the consolidated internationality achieved by the event. Closing the lineup is a poker of five O.S.C.A. F.lli Maserati cars. There will also be Ferraris, with unique pieces of immeasurable historical and collectible value ready to capture the attention of the thousands of enthusiasts expected in the cities and along the route: indeed, among the participants will be the 1952 Ferrari 225 S, which won the Monaco Grand Prix with Vittorio Marzotto, one of only 4 units of the 1954 Ferrari 121 LM brought by the Israeli crew Shraga/Shraga, a 1955 750 Monza of Spanish driver Fernandez, and, also from Spain, a 1959 250 GT/TR driven by the female crew Fernandez/Rodriguez; finally, one of the 3 constructed 250 TRI from 1960, driven by Englishman Alan Cosby from the historic British company Kent Brushes.

Alongside the incredible car park, there will also be illustrious guests and big names from motor sports, starting with local hero Miki Biasion, testimonial of the event, who will act as a pace car driver aboard a Dallara Stradale provided by the Varano de’ Melegari company, a long-time partner of the event.

There will also be another unforgettable champion from the past: Frenchman René Arnoux, who will arrive in Italy specifically on Sunday. Rally driver Tonino Tognana will instead sit in a Kimera 037, while journalist and author Ing. Laura Kukuk, an expert in vintage cars and judge at the most prestigious elegance competitions including Villa d’Este and Pebble Beach, will participate in the VIP category. Numerous institutional representatives will also take the stage at various times to greet the public and crews, representing the sponsoring bodies of the Veneto Region, the municipalities of Bassano del Grappa and Rossano Veneto, ASI (Automotoclub Storico Italiano), FIVA (Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens), and ACI Vicenza, with former driver Luciano “Lucky” Battistolli hosting during the awards ceremony.

Furthermore, thanks to the participation in the great communication project called ASI Tricolor Circuit, The Legend of Bassano benefits from the sponsorship of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport, the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Culture, and ANCI (National Association of Italian Municipalities). Final mention goes to the sponsors, including the important addition of the echo/neutra watch brand as the official timekeeper of the event, and the established international partnerships with Geminiano Cozzi, a historic manufacturer of Venetian porcelain, Pakelo Lubricants, a leading company in the sector with more than 90 years of experience in lubricant production, Ca’Apollonio Heritage, the boutique hotel that blends sustainable architecture, local design, attention to detail, and a biodiverse context in the name of connecting with the territory, Lab.Italia Security, excellence in the luxury security sector, Plano, a US company producing tool holders synonymous with quality and innovation, and Ceccato Automobili, one of the main dealerships in the northeast with 18 locations, 13 represented brands, and over 70 years of history.
