Living Monuments: the richness of urban biodiversity
The meeting aims to highlight the animal species that live alongside us in urban contexts, their characteristics, and their lifestyles, through different cases of possible coexistence between these species and humans and with the example of the activities of the Living Monuments association, which seeks to facilitate dialogue among all professional figures involved in the conservation of buildings (architects, urban planners) and the protection of animal species often at risk of extinction (biologists, ornithologists, etc.). The interest in Living Monuments encompasses the interdisciplinary field concerning Conservation Biology (species management), Architecture (best practices for managing and renovating monuments), and Economics (nature and cultural tourism).
Mauro Ferri. Veterinarian, wildlife expert, passionate about history and anthropology, he is among the founders of the Living Monuments association, which aims to protect and enhance nature and the environment, with particular reference to animal species that use Living Monuments, understood as buildings (monumental palaces, churches, towers, bell towers, various other constructions) used by species as a breeding site or as a refuge area.
Marta Villa. Always passionate about alpine fauna, particularly vertebrates, she is a forestry doctor who has held various positions in the territory of the Province of Belluno. Her constant engagement with mountain environments has always allowed her to observe animal and plant species in their habitats. Over time, she has discovered the desire to share her knowledge by participating as a speaker in seminars and courses, eventually taking up teaching at upper secondary schools.
