On Saturday, September 20 at 4:00 PM, the book “Andemo in Merica” will be presented at the headquarters of the Bellunesi nel Mondo Association (in via Cavour 3). Free admission.

This is an opportunity to rediscover a fundamental page of our history and reflect on the current value of that extraordinary migration experience. Free admission.

Andemo in Merica reconstructs a long history made of hard-earned achievements, starting from the initial landings in 1875 up to today. It contains not everything but a bit of everything: the poverty of Veneto and Friuli at the time; the false allure that lured in the poor; the dramatic journey across the Atlantic; the prohibitive conditions; the crucial contribution of emigrants to the well-being of their respective countries, Brazil and Argentina in the lead; but also the “taliàn,” the never-forgotten language; traditional celebrations; the Triveneto imprint of a DIY-based economy. And above all, the countless life stories of the Venetians and Friulians.
