A Sip of History: Belluno’s Wine

The gentle slopes of the Belluno Prealps and the Feltre basin hold an unexpected and wonderful secret: vineyards that have their roots in ancient history. As early as the Roman era, an appreciated wine was produced here, and over the centuries, a significant trade flourished. This lasted until the late 1800s when vine diseases, emigration, two world wars, and the arrival of more disease-resistant “American” grapes caused the art of winemaking to be forgotten. However, just as the coat of arms of the Municipality of Seren del Grappa, with its cluster of grapes above the hills, maintains a link to the wine-making past, new, young farmers have sought to revive ancient traditions.

Today, thanks to their crucial work, this tradition lives on. Native grapes like Bianchetta, Nera Gentile di Fonzaso (or Pavana), and Trevisana Nera give life to unique wines that tell the story of the region and its ancient history.

A Sustainable Future with PIWI

In recent years, a breath of fresh air has swept through the vineyards of the Feltre and Valbelluna areas: the disease-resistant PIWI grape varieties. These new varieties, obtained through natural cross-breeding, are more resilient to diseases and climate change, ensuring a sustainable, high-quality production without the need for heavy treatments.

Visit the wineries of our region, discover the secrets of winemaking, and taste directly from the producers. Be amazed by the beauty and tranquility of the landscape, and breathe in the clean air that is the result of viticulture that respects the environment and the rhythms of nature.
