Concert Consobrinae with the performance of works by Gabrielli, Jacchini, de Visée, Scarlatti, Haym, and Couperin.

Consobrinae means “cousins,” like Italy and France, daughters of a common ancestor and its culture: the Rome of the Caesars.

Later, Hermine Horiot and Giovanni Bellini write in the program notes, the differences are accentuated and enriched.

The two musicians are “the representatives of the heritage of these two parallel stories, a French cellist and an Italian theorbo player; and our instruments, traditionally entrusted to the basso continuo, become soloists this evening, to tell through music what our two countries were like at that time,” that is, during the period between the 17th and 18th centuries.

Here is the path that the concert proposes with Consobrinae, a program that includes the performance of works by Gabrielli, Jacchini, de Visée, Scarlatti, Haym, and Couperin.

It is the tale of the history of two instruments, cello and theorbo, which will have well-divided destinies in the two countries.

To tell all this, the Circolo proposes two interpreters of international prestige.

In 2022, Hermine Horiot and Giovanni Bellini formed a duo, with already many concerts under their belt.

Their first program, “Consobrinae,” is dedicated to the music of the second half of the 17th century from their respective countries, France and Italy, and showcases the solo and chamber music literature for their two instruments.

Hermine Horiot plays a cello made for her in 2014 by the Swedish luthier Peter Westerlund.

In 2025, she will be entrusted with the cello attributed to Matteo Goffriller, which was for more than half a century the baroque cello of Anner Bijlsma, thanks to the trust and support of a generous anonymous patron.
