SUMMARY:Festa de San Dordi '25
DESCRIPTION:The patron saint is Saint George\, a soldier from Cappadocia who was martyred under Diocletian in 303. He is celebrated on April 23.The Vow\, which gave rise to the festival and has historical significance for the town\, dates back to the Plague of 1631. In that year\, the epidemic described by Manzoni had reached Sorriva\, claiming many victims\, so much so that the town was quarantined and surrounded by guards. The dead\, exhumed\, were buried in designated graves (in the Pian dei mort area)\, as recalled by the parish priest Don Francesco Todeschi. The doctor Zaccaria del Pozzo took action to have everything that could spread the contagion burned. \nThus\, the population\, through the two family heads Tomio and Baldassarre De Cia\, turned to Saint George\, promising to sanctify the commanded holidays\, fast on the vigils\, and lead a truly Christian life forever. However\, such promises proved to be too burdensome from the outset\, and it was decided to commutate the vow by perpetually sanctifying the feast of Saint George (on April 23) and offering the church a painted leather altar frontal. Additionally\, a procession and the distribution of bean soup to the town’s poor were added. \nEven today\, this particular tradition is respected: the Mass of the Vow is celebrated on April 23\, while the beans are collected from house to house\, then prepared and cooked\, to make the soup that is distributed the Sunday following the feast of the saint. On that day\, a procession takes place with the cappati (figures dressed as members of the dissolved Archconfraternity of the Most Holy Sacrament) who carry crosses\, torches\, and the banner. \nA Mass of suffrage is then celebrated with the blessing of the soup\, prepared each year by three different families\, which is then distributed by the conscripts (twenty-year-olds of the year) to all those present in the town. Alongside all this\, an animated festival takes place\, characterized by a distinctly gastronomic and folkloric flavor. \n \nFood and wine stand and the unmissable San Dordi procession with the blessing of the “San Dordi soup”

DESCRIPTION:CULTURAL CENTER\, ROOM S8 – Via Cal de Fromiga\, 31 \n \nFrancesca De Vittor \nHuman rights and climate change: what tools for the protection of future generations? \nIn 1972\, the United Nations Conference on the Human Environment concluded with the declaration: “Every human being has a fundamental right to freedom\, equality\, and satisfactory living conditions\, in an environment that allows them to live in dignity and well-being\, and is profoundly responsible for the protection and improvement of the environment for present and future generations.” Since then\, the close relationship between environmental protection and human rights has been universally recognized\, also with reference to forms of intergenerational responsibility. Among the forms of environmental degradation caused by human activities\, climate change represents the area with the greatest\, and tendentially exponential\, impact on future generations. It is now recognized that the failure or insufficient adoption by the State of measures to mitigate anthropogenic impact on the climate or\, in general\, the safeguard of the environmental heritage can be interpreted in terms of the State’s responsibility for violating its obligations to protect and guarantee human rights. The intervention will illustrate the limits and potential of using human rights protection tools to influence state policies on climate change mitigation and adaptation. \nFrancesca De Vittor\, confirmed researcher in international law at the Faculty of Law of the Catholic University of Milan\, has obtained national scientific qualification as an associate professor for the scientific disciplinary sector “International Law”. After graduating in Law\, she attended the D.E.A. in international law at the Université Robert Schuman in Strasbourg. In 2004\, she obtained a dual doctorate degree and docteur en droit. Over the years\, she has taught courses in International Law\, European Union Law\, International Organizations\, and Immigration Law. She is currently a professor of Human Rights and the International Law Clinical Course. She has published numerous essays in Italian and foreign legal journals on topics of public international law\, human rights\, immigration and asylum law. An expert in international maritime law\, she is engaged in the protection of human life at sea\, providing legal advice to institutions and non-governmental organizations on issues related to the obligation to rescue. \nAn unmissable series of events to discover\, delve into\, and discuss current topics with experts and key figures.

SUMMARY:Torneo di Tò Vegna
DESCRIPTION:Tò Vegna (ball game) is an ancient street game still played in Farra di Mel. In past centuries\, the “ball game” was used throughout Europe wherever there was a narrow alley or strait. Tò Vegna is a variant of the ball game\, its documented origins date back to the 1600s. The traces are the records of disputes that ended up before judges as they were a source of disturbance to public order. Challenges were a daily occurrence\, both among locals and between neighboring towns\, and often the rivalry led to various brawls (namely: “a mix of knee strikes\, punches\, stones\, and sticks”). After all\, to play\, you just needed a field (a strait formed by house walls)\, a rubber ball\, some contenders\, a glass of wine as a stake\, and just enough local pride. However\, there were no limits to fighting because each town had its own rules of the game. The memory of this game has been lost due to the evolution of customs\, compounded by the difficulty of finding a suitable game ball and the increase in city traffic. All these factors gradually erased the ball game. However\, it should be noted that in Farra di Mel\, Tò Vegna has always been played\, and the tradition has never been lost; indeed\, it was a source of strength when in the 1980s\, the playing field\, previously formed by two rows of houses (a strait)\, was compromised due to the demolition of the old tavern whose walls were dangerous. After overcoming the sadness and discouragement\, the most passionate players adapted the rules to continue playing even with only one side wall. \nTò Vegna is played in occasional gatherings or in tournaments organized by the CRAL Farrese throughout the year\, such as on May 1st\, the second Sunday of July\, and a Sunday in September/October\, with the most significant being undoubtedly the one in July\, which awards the Palio delle Contrade. \nThe name Tò Vegna comes from the ritual call-and-response that precedes the ball being hit: the one who hits warns: “Tò” (take)\, and the one who receives if ready responds: “Vegna” (come). Those who practice Tò Vegna say that it is easier to start playing than to explain the rules. This has discouraged many in the past from putting them down in writing\, especially since they have been passed down verbally from generation to generation.  \nIt is present at the Veronese event Tocatì and has been officially recognized since 2023 as an intangible UNESCO heritage. \nRegistrations are open at Bar Tucano until midnight on April 30th.

DESCRIPTION:Tò Vegna (ball game) is an ancient street game still played in Farra di Mel. In past centuries\, the “ball game” was used throughout Europe wherever there was a narrow alley or strait. Tò Vegna is a variant of the ball game\, its documented origins date back to the 1600s. The traces are the records of disputes that ended up before judges as they were a source of disturbance to public order. Challenges were a daily occurrence\, both among locals and between neighboring towns\, and often the rivalry led to various brawls (namely: “a mix of knee strikes\, punches\, stones\, and sticks”). After all\, to play\, you just needed a field (a strait formed by house walls)\, a rubber ball\, some contenders\, a glass of wine as a stake\, and just enough local pride. However\, there were no limits to fighting because each town had its own rules of the game. The memory of this game has been lost due to the evolution of customs\, compounded by the difficulty of finding a suitable game ball and the increase in city traffic. All these factors gradually erased the ball game. However\, it should be noted that in Farra di Mel\, Tò Vegna has always been played\, and the tradition has never been lost; indeed\, it was a source of strength when in the 1980s\, the playing field\, previously formed by two rows of houses (a strait)\, was compromised due to the demolition of the old tavern whose walls were dangerous. After overcoming the sadness and discouragement\, the most passionate players adapted the rules to continue playing even with only one side wall. \nTò Vegna is played in occasional gatherings or in tournaments organized by the CRAL Farrese throughout the year\, such as on May 1st\, the second Sunday of July\, and a Sunday in September/October\, with the most significant being undoubtedly the one in July\, which awards the Palio delle Contrade. \nThe name Tò Vegna comes from the ritual call-and-response that precedes the ball being hit: the one who hits warns: “Tò” (take)\, and the one who receives if ready responds: “Vegna” (come). Those who practice Tò Vegna say that it is easier to start playing than to explain the rules. This has discouraged many in the past from putting them down in writing\, especially since they have been passed down verbally from generation to generation.  \nIt is present at the Veronese event Tocatì and has been officially recognized since 2023 as an intangible UNESCO heritage. \nRegistrations are open at Bar Tucano until midnight on April 30th.

DESCRIPTION:The introductory day on the knowledge\, collection\, and use of wild herbs is back. \n  The course will be offered on three different dates: Saturday\, April 5th\, Saturday\, April 26th\, and Thursday\, May 1st. \n  We will be guided by Irene De Pellegrin\, who will accompany us through fields and woods\, identifying and collecting both well-known and lesser-known herbs that you will then be able to take home and use in your dishes. \nAt the end of the morning\, lunch is scheduled at the agriturismo\, where you will find the same wild herbs that you have recognized on your plate. It’s a very hands-on experience that will leave a lasting impression and\, with some deepening and attention\, will make you independent. \nA true zero-kilometer day. \nYou can choose to either do just the excursion and course for €25\, just the lunch for €35\, or both the excursion and lunch for €55 (drinks excluded). \nReservation required within 48 hours of the event! \nThe event will take place with a minimum number of participants and may be canceled or rescheduled later in case of unfavorable weather conditions. \n \nHerbal excursion and tasting course.
