SUMMARY:Tiziano\, il paesaggio tra il Veneto e l'Europa
DESCRIPTION:Conference\, led by art historian Thomas Dalla Costa\, dedicated to the fundamental role of Titian in the development of a new landscape vision in Venetian and European art\, which is set to leave a mark until the late eighteenth century\, and which is generally recognized but not yet thoroughly studied or adequately valued. \nAlthough there are no standalone landscape paintings in the Titian catalog\, where nature plays a predominant role compared to the presence of human figures or the historia addressed in them\, the naturalistic setting that serves as a frame for his works always carries considerable weight. \nIt is already in the early phase of the Cadorino’s career\, particularly in graphic works such as drawings\, engravings\, and woodcuts\, that a significant interest in landscape is noted. \nThese are compositions that fit squarely into the genre of landscape with secondary figures\, and were produced not only by the master himself but also by a series of collaborators. \nHowever\, one of the most interesting aspects of this type of work is related to the impact these had on subsequent generations of artists\, even beyond Italian borders\, from Rembrandt and Rubens to Fragonard and Watteau\, providing a fundamental contribution to the birth of the landscape genre. \nThomas Dalla Costa\, art historian and curator\, studied at the University of Verona\, where he obtained his Ph.D. in 2012. \nHe has worked at the National Gallery in London and has curated and contributed to various exhibitions in Italy and abroad: Verona\, London\, Moscow\, Madrid\, Vienna. \nHe has published numerous contributions in journals\, books\, and exhibition catalogs regarding: the history of criticism and Venetian painting between the 15th and 17th centuries; the organization of Venetian artistic workshops; the use and function of drawing in the creative processes of Venetian artists of the 16th and 17th centuries. \nHe also has the curation or co-curation of volumes focusing on the aforementioned themes\, such as the recent “Venetian Disegno. New Frontiers 1420-1620\,” co-edited with Maria Aresin (Paul Holberton Publishing\, 2024)\, in addition to being the author of the monographic volume titled “Venus and Adonis by Titian. Art\, culture\, and society between Venice and Europe” (Marsilio\, 2019). \nHe is currently the scientific director of research and exhibition activities related to the celebrations for the 450th anniversary of Titian’s death. \nAdmission is free until seating is full\, but reservations are required at prenotazionimuseo@comune.belluno.it. \nConference onTitian\, the landscape between Veneto and Europecurated by art historian Thomas Dalla Costa.

SUMMARY:Thomas Dalla Costa: Titian\, the landscape between Veneto and Europe
DESCRIPTION:Conference organized by art historian Thomas Dalla Costa dedicated to Titian and the Landscape between Veneto and Europe. \nTitian played a fundamental role in the development of a new conception of landscape in Venetian and European art\, influencing artists up to the eighteenth century. \nAlthough he did not create true autonomous landscapes\, nature always occupies an important position in his works. \nFrom the beginning of his career\, especially through drawings\, engravings\, and woodcuts\, he showed a strong interest in landscape\, often represented with secondary human figures. \nThese works\, produced also with the help of collaborators\, had a great influence on subsequent artists such as Rembrandt\, Rubens\, Fragonard\, and Watteau\, contributing decisively to the birth and affirmation of the landscape genre. \nThe fundamental role of Titian in the development of a new landscape vision in Venetian and European art\, destined to leave its mark until the late eighteenth century\, is widely recognized but not yet thoroughly studied or adequately valued. \nAlthough there are no paintings in the Titian catalog that can be framed as autonomous landscapes\, where nature plays a predominant role compared to the presence of human figures or the historia addressed in them\, the naturalistic setting that serves as a backdrop for his works always carries considerable weight. \nIt is already in the early phase of the Cadorino’s career\, particularly in graphic works such as drawings\, engravings\, and woodcuts\, that a significant interest in landscape is evident. \nThese are compositions that fall outright into the genre of landscape with secondary figures and were produced not only by the master himself but also by a series of collaborators. \nHowever\, one of the most interesting aspects of this type of work is related to the impact it had on subsequent generations of artists\, even beyond the Italian borders\, from Rembrandt and Rubens to Fragonard and Watteau\, providing a fundamental contribution to the birth of the landscape genre. \nThomas Dalla Costa\, art historian and curator\, trained at the University of Verona\, where he obtained his PhD in 2012. \nHe has worked at the National Gallery in London and has curated and contributed to several exhibitions in Italy and abroad: Verona\, London\, Moscow\, Madrid\, Vienna. \nHe has published numerous contributions in journals\, books\, and exhibition catalogs concerning: the history of criticism and Venetian painting between the 15th and 17th centuries; the organization of Venetian artistic workshops; the use and function of drawing in the creative processes of Venetian artists in the 15th and 16th centuries. \nHe also has the curatorship or co-curatorship of volumes focusing on these themes\, such as the recent Venetian Disegno. New Frontiers 1420-1620\, co-edited with Maria Aresin (Paul Holberton Publishing\, 2024)\, in addition to being the author of the monographic volume titled “Venus and Adonis” by Titian. Art\, culture\, and society between Venice and Europe (Marsilio\, 2019). \nHe is currently the scientific director of research and exhibition activities related to the celebrations for the 450th anniversary of Titian’s death. \nFree admission until seats are exhausted with reservation required: +39 0437 913323 prenotazionimuseo@comune.belluno.it

SUMMARY:Parco archeologico di Noal
DESCRIPTION:It has been there for 3300 years\, a small witness of the era of great European archaeological sites. \nVisiting the ancient site of Noàl\, today Archaeological Park\, means rewinding the tape of time and returning to the Bronze Age\, the Iron Age\, and the Middle Ages. A place of evocative beauty\, between the Piave and Cordevole rivers\, Noàl has witnessed the succession of peoples and metallurgical innovations\, empires\, and warrior bishops. \nToday\, thanks to a long process of research and rediscovery\, the archaeological park of Noàl fully restores the mystery and energy of millennia of history and legends: it is enough to close your eyes to imagine the first blacksmiths at work\, medieval music\, and songs. \nTo relive the history of Noàl\, within the Park there is an educational path equipped with panels illustrating the history of the place\, the research\, the findings\, and indicating the layers of different periods of the fortified settlement/castle. \nAt the top of the tower\, built to a height similar to the ancient one to protect its remains\, with a panoramic view of 360° over the valley and the peaks of the Belluno Dolomites Park\, is the educational classroom\, equipped with display cases housing perfect replicas of the found artifacts\, explanatory panels\, and panoramic panels to survey and identify the ancient network of castles\, protohistoric settlements\, lookout towers\, the main peaks of the surrounding mountains\, the villages\, the Piave\, and the Cordevole. \nIt is recommended to bring a windbreaker or a sweatshirt (the tower can have a cool breeze). \nIn case of bad weather\, visits will be canceled. \nFor group visits (+10 people)\, it is always necessary to book at this address giannidv42@gmail.com to agree on the timing. \nGuided tours of the archaeological park of Noal with the opening of the tower.

SUMMARY:Visit the Necropolis of the Ancient Veneti
DESCRIPTION:Open from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. \nFree admission. \nReservation is not required. \n Extraordinary opening to the public. \nThe pre-Roman necropolis of Mel in Borgo Valbelluna opens exceptionally to the public every Sunday in July and August from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. and in conjunction with the openings of the church of the Addolorata in the center of Mel (Saturday\, July 4 and Saturday\, August 1) it will be possible to access and visit the state archaeological area that preserves the monumental burial ground of the Ancient Venetians.  \nA “city of the dead” among the oldest in Valbelluna and one of the few currently visitable in the entire Veneto region\, rediscovered thanks to excavations that began in 1958\, stands at the entrance to the village of Mel and allows us to understand how the Paleoveneti lived and what their economic and social structure was. \nThe approximately 80 tombs found are inserted within 7 circles made of sandstone slabs set vertically in the ground. The ashes of the deceased were placed in ceramic or bronze vessels along with some everyday objects inside polygonal boxes. Thus\, a sort of family tomb was formed. The cremation vessels and all the objects that accompanied the burials – ornaments and tools – are displayed in the rooms of the Civic Archaeological Museum located in the Palazzo delle Contesse in the square of Mel. \nThe Ancient Venetians or Paleoveneti were an Indo-European population that arrived in northeastern Italy after the middle of the 2nd millennium B.C. Thanks to numerous archaeological excavations and related findings\, the history and identity of this population have been reconstructed over the years. The Venetians initially settled in the area between Lake Garda and the Euganean Hills and later expanded to Adria (RO) to the south\, and to the Tagliamento River to the east. \nFree entry.
