DESCRIPTION:The events of Borgo Valbelluna \nThe May of Books returns to Borgo Valbelluna.  \nThe program prepared by the municipality of Borgo Valbelluna to participate in the national initiative The May of Books is rich. Born in 2011 with the aim of highlighting the social value of books as a key element of personal\, cultural\, and civic growth\, The May of Books is a national campaign that invites bringing books and reading into contexts different from traditional ones\, to reach those who usually do not read but can be intrigued if stimulated in the right way.  \nIn its mission\, The May of Books actively involves local authorities\, schools\, libraries\, bookstores\, festivals\, publishers\, cultural associations\, and various public and private entities. In Italy and beyond: every year\, indeed\, the campaign crosses national borders\, uniting different realities in a common passion for reading\, such as Italian schools abroad. Thanks to the collaboration of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation\, numerous events have been held in various countries over the editions.  \nIt starts on May 6 at the Library in Lentiai with “Cuddles to Read\,” a moment dedicated to the youngest children\, aged 0 to 3 years. A moment of readings and sharing not only for the little ones but also for their moms and dads. It will then proceed with two kamishibai\, a form of storytelling that originated in Japan in the Buddhist temples of the 12th century and can be translated as “paper theater performance.”  \nThere will be a double appointment with KamiLab\, on the 8th at the Library in Trichiana (Every face is a poem) and on the 15th in Lentiai (The box of memories)\, both at 5 PM.  \nAlso on the 15th\, this time at the library in Trichiana\, the exhibition “Blessed Spring” will be inaugurated\, a collection of watercolors curated by the group telling Acquarellando\, an artistic reality led by Donata Dal Molin that has long combined refined techniques and poetic imaginations designed to engage children and adults. The exhibition will remain open until June 16\, 2026\, and will be accessible for free during library hours (Mon-Fri 3 PM – 6 PM; Wed and Sat 9 AM – 12 PM). The path collects a series of works that highlight the delicacy and complexity of watercolor\, a technique capable of transforming spots and washes into vivid and evocative worlds. Many of the displayed watercolors come from illustrated books created over the years by the group\, which has managed to transform each table into a visual story capable of moving. The artists involved—Alberta Bassetto\, Silvia Bazzo\, Flavio Cortella\, Laura Fistarol\, Tiziana Furlan\, Alessandra Seganfreddo\, and Martina Zanusso—actually collaborate regularly with Donata Dal Molin in creating stories for children that combine sign\, color\, and narrative sensitivity. The themes of the works on display range from “Flowered Heads” to imaginary castles\, to illustrations of “The Canticle of Creatures” by Saint Francis\, of which the eighth centenary of the death is celebrated in 2026. The Group will then curate an afternoon of readings for girls and boys taken from their books (May 22 at 4:00 PM for the 0-3 age group\, at 5:15 PM for the 6-12 age group).  \nTwo events are instead dedicated to an adult audience. On May 13\, at 8:30 PM\, at the Hall of Frescoes in the municipality of Mel\, the Venetian publishing house Wetlands will present the title “They Killed Habibi” by Shrouq Aila\, an award-winning journalist from Gaza\, who tells in a touching and poignant book the life of a mother during the war. As a sign of solidarity and support for the Palestinian people\, the entire editorial production chain\, from editors to translators\, from graphic designers to printers\, participated in the making of this book for free. The proceeds from sales\, including international rights\, are entirely donated to the author. The readers of the group Voices of Passage will give voice to the testimony. On May 28\, the evening will instead be dedicated to the illustrated book and the importance of images with the meeting asking\, “Why do human beings love stories?” On TV\, at the cinema\, in the theater\, around the fire… in books. An evening to reflect and tell together through the experience of two writers; to explore the power of images\, with the reading of an illustrated book\, and of words\, with the reading of a tale from popular tradition; to share stories and legends of the area. We will do this with Federica Ortolan\, a writer of narratives and illustrated books for children\, teenagers\, and adults\, and Anselmo Roveda\, a writer and scholar of literature and imagination\, a professor at ISIA in Urbino\, deputy director of “Andersen\,” a monthly magazine of literature and illustration for the world of childhood\, and director of “Cabirda\,” a review for Romance intercomprehension. The meeting is co-organized and funded by the Ottica Martini of Mel. On the occasion of the May of Books\, the municipal administration will gift a book to all the girls and boys in the nursery and kindergartens of the Municipality of Borgo Valbelluna\, a symbolic gesture to promote and encourage reading from early childhood.  \n“The May of Books is increasingly shaping up to be a highly anticipated event within the cultural calendar of Borgo Valbelluna. It aims to be strongly focused on activities for girls and boys\, giving the opportunity to experience the spaces of the library also for laboratory and creative activities. DESCRIPTION:19th stage of the Giro d’Italia. \nOn Friday\, May 29\, the Giro d’Italia will pass through Valbelluna! The 19th Stage promises pure spectacle with the Feltre–Piani di Pezzè: 151 grueling kilometers and almost 5000 meters of elevation gain\, entirely in the province of Belluno\, destined to leave a deep mark on the final classification. \nThe start will be from the historic Feltre. The group will move towards Agordino\, passing through San Zenon\, Sospirolo\, the Valle del Mis and Ponte Mas\, before taking the 203 Agordina towards Agordo\, amidst spectacular scenery and an audience ready to turn every climb into a corridor of passion. \nThen it will be the turn of the most authentic Dolomites. The Passo Duran\, Passo Staulanza\, Passo Giau\, and Passo Falzarego will arrive in sequence. Four Dolomite passes that promise selection\, attacks\, and possible upheavals in the battle for the pink jersey. \nThe arrival\, spectacular and unprecedented\, will be at the Piani di Pezzè above Alleghe\, a natural balcony over the Dolomites that returns to the forefront in the great pink race. A stage already entered into legend thanks to Marco Pantani’s feat in the 1992 Giro d’Italia Dilettanti and now ready to write a new chapter in the history of cycling.

DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, May 29\, the Giro d’Italia will cross the Valbelluna with one of the most awaited stages of the 2026 edition: the Feltre–Piani di Pezzè. A day of great cycling amidst legendary climbs\, Dolomite views\, and towns ready to dress in pink to welcome fans and visitors. \nThe departure will be from Feltre\, a walled city to experience even in the hours before the race. Already from the night before\, the historic center will come alive with “La Notte Rosa”: shows\, live music\, shops\, and venues will accompany the public in a unique festive atmosphere. A special guest will be Peter Sagan\, who will present the stage before giving way to the entertainment from Radio Company\, turning the heart of the city into a large open-air event. \nThe following day\, the focus of the event will shift to the area between via Campo Giorgio and via Roma\, where the hospitality area\, the commercial village\, and service areas will come to life. After the start\, the group will pass through Cesiomaggiore\, Sospirolo\, and Agordo before tackling the great Dolomite passes: Duran\, Staulanza\, Giau\, and Falzarego\, leading to the arrival at the Piani di Pezzè above Alleghe. \nThe weekend will continue on Sunday\, May 31\, with the Monte Avena Bike Day: a non-competitive event open to all\, with eight routes among landscapes\, music\, and refreshment points\, to experience the territory authentically and transform the Giro weekend into a grand celebration of cycling and the mountains. \nDolomitic carpet of the cycling race

DESCRIPTION:Presentation of the conference\, curated by art historian Emanuele Castoldi\, dedicated to the Italian painter Antonio Solario. \nConference dedicated to Antonio Solario and curated by art historian Emanuele Castoldi\, who will describe who Antonio Solario was\, the mysterious author of the Madonna and Child\, stolen in 1973 and returned to the civic museum of Belluno last year. \nA traveling painter\, who left few traces of himself and moved between Venice\, Naples\, the Marche region\, and… England\, absorbing with great sensitivity the stimuli of the contemporary Renaissance painting. \nEmanuele Castoldi \nArt historian specializing in Venetian Renaissance art\, with particular attention to Venetian painting of the 15th and 16th centuries. \nHe obtained his doctorate at the University of Verona in 2025 with a thesis on Santa Maria degli Angeli in Murano\, investigating the architecture and decoration of the church through the works of Giovanni Bellini and Nicolò Rondinelli. \nBetween 2024 and 2025\, he received a research grant at the Longhi Foundation in Florence dedicated precisely to the early Venetian works of Antonio Solario. \nHe has published in specialized journals such as “Arte Veneta” and “MDCCC1800\,” and has participated in international conferences\, including the Renaissance Society of America Annual Conference. \nThe event is free admission with mandatory reservation at prenotazionimuseo@comune.belluno.it.

DESCRIPTION:The Lamon Plateau\, the extreme edge of the Western Feltrino\, stretches at the foot of the Dolomites\, bordered to the east by the deep incision of the Cismon River and surrounded by mountainous and hilly terrains that separate it from the Tesino and Valsugana areas. \n The territory\, romanized around the 1st century AD\, was traversed by the Via Claudia Augusta\, a military road that connected Altino to Rezia. Its path was scattered with fortifications\, one of which most likely stood on the Colle di San Pietro\, where the church of the same name was later built. \n In the San Donato area\, this presence was confirmed with the discovery in 1836 of the “Chalice of Deacon Orso“\, the oldest eucharistic chalice in Christianity’s west. Recently\, in the Piasentot locality\, the remains of a late Roman necropolis have been found\, subject to a vast campaign of archaeological digs that allowed the exhumation of over 80 burials accompanied by funerary equipment consisting of earrings\, necklaces\, fibulae\, and coins. \n And it is in these locations that the trail takes place\, consisting of three tests of running in a medium mountain environment:  \n 50K Competitive sky running features a course of approximately 40 kilometers and a positive elevation gain of about 2500 meters.  \n 20K Competitive with a loop course of approximately 21 kilometers and a positive elevation gain of about 1200 meters. \n 20K Short Trail competitive with a sports medical certificate and also NON-competitive features a loop course of approximately 14 kilometers and a positive elevation gain of about 800 meters. \nThe perfect mix for lovers of running\, nature\, and history

A captivating itinerary\, immersed in the landscapes of Valbelluna\, will accompany participants to discover places rich in charm and memory\, among spectacular canyons\, ancient settlements\, and small mountain villages. \n The excursion proposes a geo-archaeological-naturalistic route suitable for those who wish to experience the territory in an authentic and engaging way. During the walk\, participants will visit the area where the ancient castle of Monte Medon once stood\, the famous canyon of Bus del Buson\, and the archaeological site of the Copper Age at Col del Buson\, a precious testimony to human presence in these valleys since prehistoric times. \n The route will also offer characteristic views of the small villages of Case Bortot and Vial\, until reaching the evocative Pont de la Mortis\, nestled in the gorge of the Ardo stream. DESCRIPTION:A journey through history\, memory\, and lived tales \nAfter the great interest generated during the conference of the 2nd Knowledge Course of Belluno and Surroundings\, dedicated to the history of the former asylum of Feltre\, a special opportunity arrives to get to know this place rich in memory\, stories\, and testimonies up close. \nOn Saturday\, May 30 at 4.00 p.m.\, there will be a guided tour of the external spaces of the former asylum of Feltre\, accompanied by Giovanni Grazioli and Romano Scopel\, a former nurse of the facility\, who with his stories will offer an authentic and moving glimpse into life inside the Feltrino psychiatric hospital. \nThe visit will last about two hours and will take place entirely in the external areas of the former complex. \nThe meeting point is set for 4.00 p.m. at the entrance on Via Borgo Ruga\, in front of the Church of Ognissanti in Feltre.To easily reach the place\, it is possible to search on Google Maps for “Feltre Church of Ognissanti”. \nRegistration is not required: just show up directly at the meeting point. \nIt will be possible to park inside the courtyard of the former asylum\, accessing from the scenic road or from Borgo Ruga\, next to the church. \nParticipation is free.
